This project started with a small, DIY patio that no longer matched how the homeowners wanted to use their backyard. While the yard appeared compact, there was a subtle slope away from the house that required thoughtful elevation planning. Instead of fighting it, we used the grade change to create a layered outdoor living space that feels larger, more functional, and intentionally designed.

The outdoor kitchen was built closest to the home, with the cooking area on the upper platform and the bar seating positioned one step down. This allowed a single slab of granite to function simultaneously as counter height on the kitchen side and bar height on the seating side—clean, efficient, and visually seamless. The space was completed with a pergola for structure and shade, a connecting walkway, and a gas fire pit to anchor the gathering area.
